Every so often an unsigned, un-heard of band comes along and blows everyone out of the water. This is exciting. Especially when you live in the town that that band is from. Even more so if you know the guys in the band, even more so still if you ARE the guys in the band.

My Co-host Narin, along with long time friend Steve Nagel and drummer Dave Postle will be performing Saturday June 16th at Rolling Oaks Restaurant and Lounge. This is particularly exciting news for any one who remembers the name Trip District.

If you went to Rice Lake High School or UW-BC between 2008 and 2010 Trip District was it. They had the slow stoned coolness of Sublime, but yet offered the drive of Rage Against The Machine. Rice Lake’s rock stars. The band ended up putting out two albums before splitting ways.

Now, two years later, three quarters of the band will come together for rare show at Rolling Oaks in Barron, WI.

I am excited about this event for a few reasons.

Reason Number 1: I’m a fan.

Reason Number 2: Knowing each member has grown, both musically and mentally, leads me to believe this show will be different than those of the 2008-2010 time frame.

Reason Number 3: Let’s assume each member has indeed grown, and that this show will in fact be different. It is my belief that the sound should have matured, sure Steve, Narin and Dave may still put on the type of show that encourages loose lips and fun for all, but what’s wrong with that? I have high hopes that the playing will be tighter, the singing will be stronger and the overall performance memorable. If I’m wrong, well, let’s have another semi-reunion in 2014 and try again. It’s worth it. Or at least it should be.
